If you spend any time reading sewing blogs, you are aware of the annual challenge known as MMMay or Me-Made May. I’m really looking forward to this year. I have a number of me-made garments in the pipeline and I am pretty confident I’ll finish them before May 1.
To help myself stay on track to finish these garments while I have the desire to wear them, I’m implementing a Me-Making March challenge. Each day in March I will work on something related to sewing, knitting, or art. There is no required amount of time I must allot each night, although I will aim for at least 30 minutes. It might be printing out PDF patterns, or cutting out fabric, or pinning seams. Every day I will take a small step toward completing one of my projects.

I will post daily updates on Instagram @fabricalchemist (using #MeMakingMarch) and weekly roundups here on the blog.
For anyone who wants to join me in a month of breaking our creative projects into manageable chunks, you are welcome to use this image below which I will probably use going forward for this series of posts:
Oh, I like that! A me-making-March is a brilliant idea. I’ll join you in that! Does folding clean, ironed fabrics count? It’s all I’ve done today. Well, and fixing a hole in hubby’s jeans, but that’s a chore and not creative stuff. I’ve started excavating my sewing room though, that’s something. So I did get a bit of MMMarch today, right? 😁
Yes! Ironing fabric and prepping your workspace, as well as mending totally count! I will create a graphic tonight for our MMMarch. 🙂 Welcome aboard!
What a lovely pile o’ fabrics! Speaking of me-mades, how are your jeans going?
Let’s just say those jeans will be part of my March challenge. 🙂 I got sidetracked searching for top stitching thread.
I never think to do projects (except knitting) in small chunks. I always think, “Oh, this will take some time, so I’ll do it this weekend.” Then the weekend comes, and I get sidetracked with chores and other things, and the project doesn’t get done. Rinse and repeat. You approach seems much smarter; I’m going to have to copy it.
The more the merrier!
This is a really nice idea. You can count me in too. I’ve just started working on some Ginger jeans and I’m sure I can manage a step or two an evening.
I have a pair of Gingers I need to work on too. Which version are you making? I am trying the low(er) rise straight leg.
I’m doing the lower rise too but I’m going to do the skinnier leg. Its my first go at sewing trousers so I’m using cheapy stretch twill for rather than proper denim though.
This sounds like a great idea. I’ve been on holiday, so joining the party a bit late, but will try to show off this weeks work this weekend. Yesterday I was feeling uninspired, so I spent 30 minutes looking in books and making sketches.
Can’t wait to see your work!
